The Lagos Chapter of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) held its annual state convention on Saturday, September 14, 2024, in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The event, a vibrant celebration of literature, marked the chapter’s continued commitment to promoting Nigerian literary talent and showcased its notable achievements over the past year.
A key highlight of the convention was the launch of three highly anticipated anthologies: Prisms, an anthology of poems; Talking Drums, an anthology of essays; and Next of Tales, a collection of short stories.
These publications feature contributions from a wide range of talented Nigerian writers and are expected to make a significant impact on the nation’s literary landscape.
The convention also saw the inauguration of a new executive committee to steer the chapter for the coming term. Dr. Olatunbosun Taofeeq was elected as the new Chairman, alongside other officials, including:
The event was further enriched with poetry recitations, thought-provoking literary discussions, and the presentation of awards and certificates of recognition.
Distinguished guests, patrons, and former chairmen of the chapter were in attendance, all expressing their excitement and satisfaction with this year’s convention.
The outgoing executive committee, led by Mr. Ifeanyichukwu Avajah, received commendations for their leadership and resilience, having successfully navigated the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and other national crises during their tenure.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected chairman, Dr. Taofeeq, promised to build on the solid foundation laid by the previous administration, while working towards elevating the chapter’s status in the Nigerian literary scene.
With the successful launch of the anthologies and the election of a new leadership team, ANA Lagos is set for greater achievements in the literary world.
