The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has defeated two major opponents, George Moghalu of the Labour Party (LP) and John Chuma-Nwosu of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in their own local government area, Nnewi North.
Both Moghalu and Chuma-Nwosu hail from Nnewi North, while Soludo is from Isuofia in Aguata LGA.
The Collation Officer for Nnewi North LGA announced the results early Sunday at the State Collation Centre of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to the figures:
APGA (Soludo) – 20,320 votes
APC (Nicholas Ukachukwu) – 5,441 votes
LP (George Moghalu) – 1,140 votes
YPP (Paul Chukwuma) – 1,100 votes
ADC (John Chuma-Nwosu) – 553 votes
Low Turnout Despite High Registration
A total of 166,291 voters were registered in Nnewi North. However, only 29,323 voters were accredited to vote.
Of the 29,284 total votes cast,
28,715 were valid,
569 were rejected.
