Anambra Guber: NLC To Decide Moghalu’s Fate

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has said it will take action concerning the recognition of Labour Party candidate for the Anambra governorship election, George Moghalu.

On Tuesday, the NLC’s Political Commission (NLCPC) said it was awaiting the position of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the chairmanship tussle of the Labour Party (LP).

Naijaonpoint reports that the commission’s Acting Chairman, Professor Theophilus Ndubaku, stated this in an interview with the Nation.

Ndubuaku expressed worry that INEC has yet to take a firm decision on the ruling of the Supreme Court.

Recall that the Julius Abure faction conducted the Labour Party’s primary election in Anambra. While INEC refuted reports that it recognized Abure’s leadership, the commission published Moghalu’s name as the candidate of the party for Anambra’s November 8 election.

INEC’s recognition of Moghalu, whose election was conducted by Abure’s camp, has raised suspicion about the commission’s stand by the faction of the party’s Acting National Chairman, Nenadi Usman.

“As law-abiding citizens, we are waiting for the decision of the INEC. After the Supreme Court judgment, we wrote to INEC and the commission informed us that it was studying the judgment.

“So, we are waiting for them. We don’t want to take laws into our hands. It is part of the reason we have not held our NEC meeting,” Ndubuaku said.

Speaking on Moghalu’s recognition, Ndubaku said NLC would take a decision when they see the details of INEC’s decision.

“We have not seen the details yet,” he stated.
