The Mayor of Orumba North Local Government Area in Anambra State, Captain (Barr.) Casmir Nwafor, has alleged that four members of the Anambra State House of Assembly who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) were financially induced to do so.
This was made known by the council boss while speaking to journalists in Ajali, the headquarters of Orumba North, on Thursday, September 25, 2025.
He claimed that the lawmakers dumped the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) not out of genuine political conviction, but because of monetary promises tied to the APC governorship campaign.
The four lawmakers are Hon. Ike Augustine Onyekachukwu (Nnewi North), Hon. Obalim Patrick Udoba (Anambra West), Hon. Paul Obu (Orumba North), and Hon. Emma Oforka (Onitsha North). They officially defected to the APC on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, during the inauguration of the party’s campaign council in the state.
“I heard that each of the APC governors and the FCT Minister will support the campaign of the gubernatorial candidate with one billion naira each,” Nwafor said. “Senators and House of Representatives members of the party will also support him. That is big money for you! So, the defectors are positioning themselves to partake of the money. They’re not defecting for the love of the party but for the love of the money.”
He added that despite their defection, the lawmakers would still “mobilize their supporters and do the needful” during the November 8 governorship election.
Thr council chairman also used the opportunity to highlight his administration’s achievements in Orumba North, attributing them to Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s “transformative style of governance.”
“When I assumed office, there were no offices for councillors or even the chairman. Power supply was unreliable, and many roads were in a deplorable state,” he said. “Today, we have built new offices, installed a transformer for constant power, constructed internal roads, and improved security facilities. We have also upgraded our healthcare centres and supported women traders with seed capital.”
Nwafor lauded Governor Soludo for his reforms across sectors, including infrastructure, education, and healthcare, adding that “Soludo has done in one term what others couldn’t do in eight years.”
He expressed confidence that the governor’s record will secure APGA’s victory at the upcoming governorship poll, saying that “projects across the state will speak for Soludo.”
In a related development, Chief Primus Odili, a former Chief of Staff to ex-Governor Willie Obiano, recently urged Anambra residents to remain loyal to APGA and continue supporting Governor Soludo’s administration.
