Anambra PDP Guber Candidate Survives Shooting In Abuja

Jude Ezenwafor

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the upcoming November 8, 2025, election in Anambra State, Jude Ezenwafor, has reportedly survived a brazen gun attack by yet-to-be-identified assailants in Abuja.

Naijaonpoint reports that the PDP candidate had sustained gunshot wounds during an attack in Abuja.

Recall that Ezenwafor was shot multiple times on the leg by unidentified gunmen late Friday night in the Wuse 2 area of the Federal Capital Territory while returning from a private engagement.

Ezenwafor is still alive but is still receiving treatment at an undisclosed private hospital.

Two other individuals who were with him in the same vehicle also sustained injuries in the coordinated attack and are receiving medical care.

Naijaonpoint reports that no individual or group has claimed responsibility for the shooting, and the identities of the assailants are still unknown.

Security agencies are said to have launched an investigation into the incident, but no official arrests have been made.

A source close to the PDP candidate had earlier dismissed rumours of his death in a telephone chat with Naijaonpoint.

The source slammed media organisations for spreading unsubstantiated rumours, adding that a comprehensive statement will be released soon on what transpired.

Recall that the PDP, in a statement issued on Sunday and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, described the attack as a politically motivated plot by desperate individuals unsettled by Ezenwafor’s rising popularity.

After a critical analysis of the violent incident, the PDP believes that certain interests who, ostensibly being uncomfortable with the growing popularity of the PDP candidate ahead of the November election are desperate to prevent him from participating in the coming poll,” the statement said.

The PDP also disclosed that it had received intelligence on other schemes aimed at tarnishing the image of its candidate through orchestrated smear campaigns.

Our Party has also been made aware of other plots by some anti-democratic elements in Anambra State to commence a series of smear campaigns against our candidate following the failure of the assassination plot,” the party added.

The PDP blamed the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for what it called “overtly insensitive, corrupt and abysmally rudderless” leadership.

“This attack on the PDP candidate is another sad commentary on the alarming level of insecurity in the country under the overtly insensitive, corrupt and abysmally rudderless All Progressives Congress (APC) administration,” the statement read.

The party, however, declared that the attempt on Ezenwafor’s life would not deter its resolve, nor would it stop the candidate from contesting and winning the election.

The PDP called on the Inspector General of Police to arrest the attackers and their sponsors and ensure the safety of its candidate ahead of the election.
