The Anambra State Police Command has clarified that its ongoing operation involving the impounding of vehicles with tinted glasses, regardless of whether owners possess tinted glass permits, is part of a security-focused enforcement exercise and not an attempt to cause unnecessary hardship to residents.
According to the Command, the exercise also covers unregistered vehicles and vehicles with concealed, covered, or defaced number plates. The operation is designed to verify the authenticity of tinted glass permits, identify forged or fraudulently obtained permits, ensure proper compliance with vehicle registration regulations, and prevent criminals from exploiting such violations to evade identification.
The Police explained that the action became necessary due to prevailing security concerns and the increasing use of tinted and improperly registered vehicles by criminal elements to conceal identities and frustrate law enforcement operations.
While acknowledging the inconvenience the exercise may cause law-abiding citizens, the Command urged residents of Anambra State to remain patient and cooperative, emphasising that the operation is intended to safeguard lives and property and strengthen public safety across the state.
Speaking on behalf of the Command, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, reassured Ndi Anambra that the exercise is being conducted solely in the interest of security and public protection.
