The Nigeria Police Force has intensified aerial surveillance across Anambra State to enhance security during the ongoing governorship election, which is taking place in 5,718 polling units.

The state police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development in a statement on Saturday, describing it as part of a wider security strategy to guarantee a peaceful and credible election.

He said the aerial patrols are being coordinated alongside ground troops, marine operatives, and tactical units already stationed in key locations across the state.

“The air surveillance teams are mandated to monitor movement patterns, detect suspicious gatherings, and provide real-time intelligence support to ground commanders for swift operational response,” Ikenga stated.

He assured residents that the police would remain fair and professional throughout the exercise.

“The Force reiterates that it remains neutral, professional, and committed to protecting all citizens, electoral officials, observers, and materials throughout the election period,” he said.

Ikenga appealed to voters to remain orderly and cooperate with security personnel as they perform their duties. He also reminded them that every measure had been taken to safeguard the process.

“The Nigeria Police Force assures residents that all necessary measures have been put in place to guarantee the sanctity of the ballot, uphold the rule of law, and ensure that every eligible voter exercises their civic right without fear, intimidation, or disruption,” he added.

Meanwhile, reports from several polling units across Anambra show that voting has started smoothly, with no major incidents recorded as of the time of filing this report.
