After a year of waiting, Galaxy A01 and unlocked Galaxy A02s users in the US are finally getting the taste of Android 12. Samsung has released the big Android update for the two budget smartphones stateside. Neither model is eligible for Android 13.
The Android 12 update is currently rolling out to the carrier-locked version of the Galaxy A01 in the US. The new firmware version for the phone is A015UVHU7CVK9, SamMobile reports. Users with an unlocked model should get this release in the coming days. It brings Samsung’s One UI 4.1 Core custom skin and bundles a fairly old September security patch. Since the device isn’t on the company’s priority list for updates, that’s understandable.
Samsung has already rolled out Android 12 for the Galaxy A01 in some international markets. Users in Asia started picking up the update a few weeks back with firmware version A015FXXU5CVK5 or A015GXXU5CVK5. The update has also reached Latin America where users are getting the firmware version A015MUBU4CVK6. It’s the September SMR (Security Maintenance Release) everywhere. A global rollout should be just around the corner.
Meanwhile, if you’re using an unlocked Galaxy A02s in the US, Android 12 is now available for your phone as well. The update, which brings One UI 4.1 Core, comes with firmware version A025U1UEU1CVK6 and bundles a relatively new November SMR. The carrier-locked model picked up Android 12 last month with firmware version A025USQU1CVK2, along with the September security patch. It has since received the December SMR as well. The build number for the latter update is A025USQS1CVL2.
The Galaxy A02s has already received Android 12 in most international markets. Samsung began the rollout back in July. Users in the US are getting a relatively late entry to the party. The update brings a host of new features and improvements, to both the Galaxy A02s and the Galaxy A01. If you’re using this phone stateside, install the big Android update and start exploring. There’s plenty to look forward to here.
The Galaxy A01 and Galaxy A02s will not get Android 13
Samsung released the Galaxy A01 in January 2020 and Galaxy A02s in January 2021. But despite arriving on the market a year apart, both models ran Android 10 out of the box. As such, Android 12 is the second major update for them. And it’s last too, as the Korean firm only promises two Android OS upgrades for its budget smartphones. They will continue to get security updates though. The former will get those at least until January 2024, while the latter will receive security updates until January 2025.
