AFRICAN music icons Angelique Kidjo and Awilo Longomba will play prominent roles in the 2025 CAF Awards.
The Confederation of African Football confirmed that the pop stars will play different roles at the ceremony scheduled for tomorrow in Rabat, Morocco.
“The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) is pleased to reveal the presenters for the prestigious CAF Awards 2025, which will take place on 19 November at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Rabat,” the continental body stated.
“The ceremony will begin at 19h00 local time / 18h00 GMT.
“For this edition, CAF has brought together a duo that perfectly reflects the artistic diversity and cultural reach of the continent: Angélique Kidjo and Oualass.
“Kidjo, a towering figure on the global stage, has embodied African artistic excellence for more than three decades.
“With five Grammy Awards to her name, the Beninese icon is celebrated for blending world music with African rhythms and for her unmatched presence in international culture.
“Her influence extends well beyond the stage. Named one of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential women, she serves as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and is a prominent advocate for women’s rights, education and the preservation of African cultural heritage.
“Joining her is Oualas, the comedian, actor and showman whose rising popularity in Morocco and across Africa has made him one of the continent’s most recognisable entertainment personalities.”
While the multilingual Kidjo will present, Awilo will entertain the audience with some of the hits in his rich repertoire of songs, along with other star singers.
“Three renowned musicians, Douaa Lahyaoui, Awilo Longomba and Fuse ODG, each representing a different generation and musical expression, will celebrate the continent’s creativity and cultural diversity on Africa’s biggest football stage,” CAF said.
“Douaa Lahyaoui, one of Morocco’s most exciting rising voices, has captivated audiences at major national cultural showcases. Noted for her outstanding vocal range and a refined artistic identity, she blends Moroccan influences with modern pop and international tones.
“Her presence at the CAF Awards 2025 symbolises a new Moroccan generation confidently carrying the nation’s colours while engaging with contemporary sounds across the continent.
“A festive surge will follow with Awilo Longomba, the Congolese soukous legend whose anthems have become classics across Africa.
“With a career that has earned global recognition, multiple distinctions and enduring popularity, Awilo promises an electrifying performance, true to his hallmark mix of rhythm, dance and generous stagecraft.
“His set at the CAF Awards 2025 reaffirms the central place of Congolese music in Africa’s cultural heritage.
“Completing the bill is Fuse ODG, a defining figure of modern Afrobeats. The Anglo-Ghanaian star, a MOBO Award winner, has made his mark through international collaborations and a consistent drive to elevate Afro-urban sounds on the world stage.”
Super Eagles of Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen is in contention for the Player of the Year prize with Egypt’s Mohamed Salah and Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi.
Super Falcons pair Rasheedat Ajibade and Chiamaka Nnadozie are nominated for the Women’s Player of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year awards respectively.
