Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has said that aside from his faith, Islam, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is responsible for everything he has achieved in life.
Speaking passionately in Abuja on Monday during a meeting of the PDP National Convention Protocol Committee, Fintiri described the party as the foundation of his political rise and personal success, adding that he owes it unflinching loyalty.
“Apart from Islam, PDP is the next association that has given me everything I have achieved in life. I will forever remain grateful to this party,” he said.
Naijaonpoint reports that Fintiri, who chairs the main convention committee, said his commitment to the PDP was total, vowing never to let the party down under his leadership.
“Not under our leadership, not during our time, will we let this party down. As you can see from the members’ commitment, everyone is determined,” he added.
The governor assured members that preparations for the PDP National Convention, slated for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, were in full swing.
According to him, the compilation of delegates’ lists is already underway, while all committees have been mobilised to ensure a smooth and transparent process.
“I want to reassure you that, on our side, we are fully committed and will not leave any stone unturned. We are putting in our best and making sacrifices to ensure a successful convention and battle,” he said.
Fintiri also pledged that the forthcoming convention would reflect the true spirit of internal democracy.
“We are not going to deny anybody the chance to contest. I will personally ensure that the screening process is transparent. Everybody who has purchased forms will be screened as long as there are no encumbrances in their documents or records,” he explained.
Encouraging aspirants to embrace fair competition, the governor insisted that no one would be imposed on the party.
“Go and test your popularity in the field because we are already finalising the names of the delegates. If you feel you are popular, go to the field and test your strength. In the end, those supported by the majority will emerge victorious,” he said.
Fintiri added that the renewed enthusiasm among party members showed that “life is returning to the PDP,” describing the upcoming convention as a symbol of the party’s resilience and rebirth.
“People are beginning to trust and show commitment to what we are doing. At the end of the day, we will provide the kind of responsible leadership required to steer this party forward,” he assured.
PDP Remains Africa’s Biggest Political Movement
Reiterating his earlier position, Fintiri declared that the PDP remains the biggest and strongest political party in sub-Saharan Africa, and called on members to stay united and focused.
“PDP is still the biggest and largest party in sub-Saharan Africa. We must make sacrifices and keep the faith. Don’t mind any noise you hear; we will be victorious at the end,” he said.
Also speaking, Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, who chairs the Protocol Subcommittee, commended the level of mobilisation and enthusiasm ahead of the Ibadan convention.
“Today’s meeting demonstrates that the PDP is very much alive and that we are taking the convention seriously,” Mutfwang said.
“Those who founded this party will not wish to see it die in our time. We therefore have a duty to keep the platform alive for the people of Nigeria.”
He noted that his subcommittee was focused on ensuring a well-coordinated and seamless convention, stressing that all arrangements would be completed before delegates’ arrival.
“If you see any well-organised meeting, it’s because protocol was well handled. Our job is not in Abuja; it’s in Ibadan. We must be on the ground before the delegates arrive,” Mutfwang stated.
Naijaonpoint reports that the PDP National Convention in November is expected to elect new members of the National Working Committee (NWC) as part of efforts to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Party leaders say the convention will mark a significant step toward rebuilding internal unity and restoring the PDP’s image as Nigeria’s foremost opposition platform.
