The Bauchi State caucus of the All Progressives Congress has rejected efforts to admit Governor Bala Mohammed into the party.
The decision was announced on Tuesday night after a meeting held in Abuja.
It followed reports that the governor had earlier indicated plans to leave the Peoples Democratic Party and possibly join the African Democratic Congress.
The situation gained attention after the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, alongside Abba Yusuf, visited the Bauchi Government House for a private meeting with Mohammed.
Although details of the discussion were not made public, it was believed that the visit was aimed at convincing the governor to reconsider his reported move and instead align with the APC.
Speaking after the caucus meeting, Senator Sama’ila Dahuwa said members agreed not to accept the governor into the party. He explained that the decision was reached after careful discussions.
The caucus raised concerns about Mohammed’s past remarks against President Bola Tinubu and the APC.
It noted that the governor had not withdrawn those statements or made any move to reconcile with party leaders.
According to the group, allowing him into the party at this time could affect unity, trust, and the party’s chances in future elections in Bauchi State.
The caucus also criticised the lack of consultation with key party members before such moves were considered, saying it went against internal democratic practices.
It added that its position would be officially communicated to the party’s national leadership, while calling for respect for established processes.
