A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Mr Adebola Ogunleye has lauded President Bola Tinubu for signing Four Tax Reform Bills into law.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that President Tinubu signed the bills into law on Thursday.
The four bills are the Nigeria Tax Bill, the Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill, and the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Bill.
The bills were passed by the National Assembly after extensive consultations with various interest groups and stakeholders.
Ogunleye made the commendation in an interview with NAN in Abuja on Friday.
He said the signing was another landmark masterstroke and a positive step in the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu’s administration.
He expressed confidence in the possibility of the signed bills to eliminate multiple tax collection with enhanced transparency, and equity among states.
“The laws are expected to eliminate the past multiple tax collection, enhance transparency, promote equity among states, and protect taxpayers’ rights,” he said.
Ogunleye, who saluted Tinubu’s leadership courage, said the successful passing of the bill by the national assembly, underscored economic, social and political reforms irrespective of the obstacles.
According to him, the manner the President successfully managed the initial discordant views in the polity to achieve the present synergy and unity of purpose within political elites is laudable.
He expressed optimism that the laws will lead to tax revolutions that would eliminate multiple tax systems of the past, and eliminate exploitation in tax administration by bureaucrats.
Ogunleye reiterated that the signing would also ensure fairness and equity in the distribution of tax dividends to tiers of government.
“The laws will further be a platform for an evolutionary step toward fiscal and political restructuring of the nation and for reforms for social justice and equity.”
The APC chieftain, however, advised the government to ensure strict implementation of the laws to achieve the desired goals.
Ogunleye commended the national assembly for being partners in progress in the noble task of putting Nigeria on the path of prosperity .
