Countdown to the 2027 general elections, a major splinter group from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in Niger state, by the name, ‘Niger Rescue Movement’ (NRM) has emerged, and declared readiness to join forces with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of next year’s general elections and as well end the second term bid of Governor Mohammed Umar Bago.
Splitting of the ruling APC and forming alliance with the ADC in Niger state is coming as a fallout of the party’s nationwide election primaries which was characterized by irregularities prompting protests against the outcome by most of the contestants, now seeking for alternative political platforms to actualize their political dreams.
Other grouse which the NRM said prompted their exit from the APC is that the Governor Bago led administration deviated from core reasons why they supported him and the APC which included; ending insecurity, jobs creation, quality and affordable education, health-care delivery system, potable water and accessible roads amongst others.
Addressing journalists at the IBB Pen House on Thursday, the NRM through its spokesperson, Hon. Mikail Bmitosahi said they cannot watch and see the future of Niger state and that of the entire citizenry being mortgaged by the current dispensation in the state.
Bmitosahi, a former House of Rep member, and former Chief of Staff, told journalists that the NRM already have its structures across the 25 Local Government Areas (LGAs) through which it intends to actualize set plans.
The NRM leadership, most of them former Commissioners and legislators, promising not to engage in politics of bitterness expressed appreciation to the leadership of the ADC at state and national level for ‘opening their doors to us’,
As the person saddled with the responsibility of steering this course, Bmitosahi assured that, “We will mobilize all structures of NRM across the 25 LGAs to work for ADC victory. We will take this message to every ward, every village, every polling unit”.
“We will avoid politics of bitterness, our campaigns will be about solutions to the many challenges bedeviling Niger state”, Bmitosahi said as he encouraged members to work according to the stipulated assurances.
With full optimism that the ADC/NRM alliance in Niger state will achieve desired results, Bmitosahi said, “We are home. We are ready. And by the grace of God, Niger state will be better for it”.
He said, “After wide consultations with our leaders, stakeholders, youth and women across Niger state, we the NRM political family has resolved to formally align with the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections”.
The decision to dump the APC and form alliance with the ADC, he said was not made in a haste, but made in the interest of the people of Niger state and Nigeria at large, adding that the NRM family, “Believes in politics of ideas, inclusiveness, and service delivery”.
