The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has claimed that some politicians have hired gun-wielding thugs to disrupt the planned visit of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, to the state.
The party’s Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Gusau.
According to Idris, the alleged plan was aimed at distracting Matawalle’s homecoming event scheduled for Thursday.
He explained that the party had made adequate arrangements to receive the minister, who is expected to meet party leaders, members, and supporters in Gusau and his hometown, Maradun.
However, Idris lamented that thugs have been hired to attack the minister’s convoy and cause chaos along the Gusau–Maradun route, particularly around Tsafe.
“Unfortunately, we have received credible information that there is a serious, destructive plan for the minister’s visit,” he said.
The party, however, cautioned its members to remain law-abiding and avoid carrying weapons during the visit.
“We are therefore warning our members against carrying any type of weapon throughout the minister’s visit and beyond to ensure peace and order,” Idris said.
He also called on security agencies to take note of the alleged plot and ensure that anyone found attempting to cause unrest is arrested and handed over to law enforcement authorities.
