The All Progressive Congress (APC) has said it will take over the leadership of Abia State in 2027.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Abia State is currently under the leadership of Alex Otti of the Labour Party.

The declaration was made by the Chairman of APC in Abia, Kingsley Ononogbu, at Abiriba Stadium in Abiriba, Ohafia LGA of Abia State on Friday.

During the event, Ononogbu received a former prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kelvin Jombo Onumah, who defected to the APC along with his supporters. The Abia State APC Chairman expressed confidence in his party’s ability to win available seats in the State in the 2027 elections.

According to Ononogbu, the APC will leverage the achievements of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu in the Senate, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu in the House of Representatives, and the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha. He emphasized that the party has corrected its past mistakes and is now more united and prepared to rule the State in 2027.

“We expect that if we take over Abia State in 2027, you will see more actions, verifiable actions,” he said.

Ononogbu presented the APC flag to Kelvin Jombo, commending the former PDP member for making the right choice by joining the APC.

Jombo, in his speech, stated that he joined the party to attract development to his people of Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal constituency, as well as Abia North at large, and to add value to the APC.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu also addressed the gathering, urging Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Tinubu’s economic reform programs. He assured that Nigerians will overcome the present hardship and hunger in the country. Kalu emphasized that the APC remains the largest party in the country and called for fair reportage of the party’s achievements.
