APC’s Umar-Sani Wins Basawa Constituency By-Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Dahiru Umar-Sani of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Basawa Constituency seat in the Kaduna State House of Assembly.

Announcing the outcome on Sunday in Zaria, the Returning Officer for the by-election, Prof. Nasiru Rabiu of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, confirmed that Umar-Sani polled 10,996 votes, defeating his closest rival, Muazu Danyaro of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 5,499 votes.

Rabiu further disclosed that DanBala Usman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) secured 811 votes, while Mahmuda Almustapha of the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) garnered 146 votes.

“Dahiru Umar-Sani of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared winner and returned elected,’’ Prof. Rabiu announced.

Although 18 political parties were initially cleared for the election, the INEC Returning Officer revealed that only four parties eventually fielded candidates in the by-election.
