Arrowverse creator Marc Guggenheim’s comic book series, Last Flight Out, has set a seven-figure movie deal with Apple. Guggenheim’s celebrated Dark Horse graphic novel, illustrated by Eduardo Ferigato, follows a father and daughter as they struggle to reconnect while facing the end of the world.
According to Deadline, Apple is developing a film adaptation of Marc Guggenheim’s Last Flight Out with Sam Hargrave in talks to direct, and Guggenheim adapting the screenplay himself. Apple Original Films acquired the project, reportedly for a seven-figure sum, and will develop it in partnership with Chernin Entertainment.
Apple and Chernin see Last Flight Out as a major tentpole project. Considering Hargrave’s proven success directing action-packed films such as his Extraction series for Netflix and, more recently, episodes of Apple TV’s The Last Frontier, Last Flight Out seems like an ideal addition to his lineup.
Hargrave has directed two of The Last Frontier‘s first four episodes at the time of writing.
Last Flight Out also reunites Hargrave with Apple after previously collaborating on the upcoming Matchbox movie starring John Cena. On the other hand, Guggenheim, best known as one of the key creators behind the Arrowverse, has been on a hot streak recently, selling three pilots in the past six months. He also wrote Netflix’s forthcoming film An Innocent Girl, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Carry-On).
Chernin Entertainment has also been particularly active lately, having recently signed a first-look feature deal with Apple. The company has already produced several projects for the streamer, including the epic series Chief of War and See, both starring Jason Momoa. Last Flight Out is the latest addition to the lineup.
