In a surprising move, Apple has announced a Self Service Repair program for individuals who are comfortable with the idea of repairing their Apple products. The move might surprise many as Apple has often been criticised for its repair cost worldwide. Via the Self Service Repair program, individuals can order dedicated parts and tools via the online store required to repair or replace an existing component. The repair program is currently available for iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models. Apple will soon expand the program to Mac computers featuring the M1 chips. Let’s take a look at more details about the Apple Self Service Repair program.
Apple Self Service Repair Program
Apple will allow consumers to repair their devices on their own with the new Self Service Repair program. It is currently available for the iPhone 12 and 13 models. The repair program will go live in early 2022 in the US, followed by additional countries throughout the year.
Apple said that the initial phase of the program will focus on the most commonly serviced modules. These include the iPhone display, battery, and camera. Parts and tools for additional repairs will be available later next year.
To ensure that customers can safely repair a particular part or product, they first need to go through the Repair Manual. Users can then place an order for the Apple genuine parts and tools using the Apple Self Service Repair Online Store. The company also states that Self Service Repair is intended for “individual technicians with the knowledge and experience to repair electronic devices.” It encourages other consumers to visit a professional repair provider with certified technicians who use genuine Apple parts for “the safest and most reliable way to get a repair.”
After successfully repairing the product, customers can choose to return their used part for recycling and get credit toward their purchase. Apple also stated that it has doubled the number of service locations with access to Apple genuine parts, tools, and training, including more than 2,800 Independent Repair Providers. In addition, Apple continues to offer convenient repair options for customers through its global network of over 5,000 Apple Authorised Service Providers that help millions of people with both in- and out-of-warranty service for all its products.
