Jennifer Lopez may be drawing applause for her Up All Night Las Vegas residency, but comedian Aries Spears is not among those impressed.
Earlier this year, Spears took to Instagram to share a clip from the show and offered a blunt assessment of Lopez’s vocals.
“To the people that get upset with the people that critique J.Lo’s singing and call them haters, what is wrong with you guys?” he said. “She’s off key, she’s not on pitch, and she can barely hold certain notes. It’s not hate, it’s honesty.”
The comments sparked backlash from JLo’s fans, but during a recent interview, he stood firm in his opinion.
“Jennifer Lopez looks good for her age, but she can’t sing worth a damn,” he told VLAD TV, comparing her unfavorably to vocal legends like Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston. “People make excuses and say she never claimed to be the best singer. Well then, don’t sing. Why do you have a residency in Vegas?”
When asked about the backlash, Spears doubled down. “They’ll say you’re a hater,” he said. “I’m honest and opinionated. I’m just stating facts.”
