Umar Damagum, acting national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Monday paid a visit to Jude Ezenwafor, the party’s candidate for the forthcoming Anambra governorship election, who was recently shot by unknown gunmen in Abuja.

Damagum was accompanied by Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi; the speaker of the Bauchi state house of assembly; and other senior party officials.

The PDP leaders visited the candidate at an undisclosed medical facility in Abuja, where he is receiving treatment following the ambush.

Ezenwafor was reportedly attacked by unidentified assailants over the weekend while driving within the capital city.

Although details remain sketchy, sources say he sustained multiple gunshot wounds but is in a stable condition.

Damagum condemned the attack, describing it as a “cowardly act” and “an assault on democracy.”

He called on security agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“We cannot allow intimidation and violence to define our politics,” Damagum said.

Governor Mohammed also expressed solidarity with the wounded candidate, urging him to remain strong in the face of adversity.

“This is a trying moment for you and for our democracy, but we stand with you,” he said.
