The General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Nigeria, Rev. Paul Emeka, has condemned the administration of President Bola Tinubu over what he described as the “unending killings of Christians” across the country.
Rev. Emeka made the remarks during the five-day Peniel 2025 national revival summit held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu. He urged the Federal Government to engage the United States in talks to help tackle terrorism and stop the bloodshed.
According to him, the continued silence of the government in the face of mass killings has become disturbing and unacceptable.
He said the time had come for Nigeria to seek genuine help rather than hide behind politics or propaganda.
“It is a reality that Christians are being killed in large numbers. They are killed en masse. They are killed in large numbers. In Jos they are killed in large numbers, almost on daily basis. You see it in Maiduguri and all over the North,” Prof Emeka stated.
He added that the killings were clearly targeted at Christians, noting that government officials should stop pretending otherwise. “Where you have up to one thousand casualties, nine hundred and ninety-nine are Christians,” he stressed.
Rev. Emeka argued that there was nothing wrong in allowing America to intervene, saying Nigeria’s sovereignty should not be an excuse for inaction.
“America says they will intervene and everybody likes it. Why won’t we like it? It is not a matter of whether Nigeria is a sovereign nation or not, it is a matter of ‘are Christians dying?’ They are dying and America feels concerned to come,” he said.
He maintained that the Nigerian government’s failure to act decisively against terrorists has drawn global attention, including from the U.S.
“Now that Trump has shown interest, we like it. Positively, let the Nigerian government enter into negotiation with America. Actually, people are dying… America has the apparatus, America has the knowhow to come and help us to stop it if we engage them positively,” he added.
The cleric also called on President Tinubu to release the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, if his administration truly desires peace and national healing.
“You can’t be talking that Kanu is a terrorist or sponsored terrorism whereas you display an array of great terrorists on their machines brandishing their guns and everybody is seeing it but you leave thousands of people who are killing people everyday and you target Kanu alone,” Rev. Emeka stated.
He challenged the government to prove its sovereignty by confronting terrorism in the North and South.
“If Nigeria is a sovereign nation, let Nigeria show her sovereignty by stopping the terrorists from going about in the North and in the South killing people,” he said.
Speaking on the revival programme, Rev. Emeka described Peniel 2025 as the most successful edition so far.
He said participants came from across the country despite high transportation costs, noting that this year’s theme, “Greater Tomorrow,” was chosen to inspire hope in difficult times.
