THE Former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, has criticised the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), accusing the agency of acting with bias following what he described as an unsuccessful attempt to detain former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, at an airport.
In a post shared on X today, Atiku said he visited El-Rufai in solidarity after the alleged incident, which reportedly occurred shortly after the former governor returned to Nigeria.
He characterised the ICPC’s actions as partisan and expressed concern over the development.

The ICPC had not issued any official statement addressing the allegation as of the time this report was filed.
The situation unfolds against a backdrop of heightened political tension, particularly following El-Rufai’s recent association with the African Democratic Congress and his vocal criticism of federal authorities.
In recent weeks, the former governor has publicly raised concerns about potential moves by security agencies targeting him amid his growing involvement in opposition politics.
Reports yesterday indicated that security operatives attempted to stop him at the airport upon his arrival in the country.
According to his aides, the officials did not present an arrest warrant, leading to a brief confrontation before he was allowed to leave the terminal.
Neither the ICPC nor any other security agency has officially confirmed the reported incident.
