They are protesting INEC’s decision to de-recognise the Mark ADC leadership, and the commission’s alleged partisanship in the leadership crisis rocking the embattled political party.
There are now three factions contesting the leadership of the major opposition party in the country. One led by Mark, and two other factions by Dumebi Kachikwu and Nafiu Bala Gombe, respectively.
The contenders have approached the court for settlement.
In his post on his verified X handle, Abubakar said the protest is aimed at safeguarding democracy in the country, and prevent the country from sliding into dictatorship under the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. ’
Abubakar said, “Myself and other leaders of the ADC are peacefully protesting against the partisanship of the electoral umpire. Our patriotic stance is aimed at safeguarding our democracy and preventing the enthronement of a dictatorship.”
The ADC has accused the administration of President Tinubu of dictatorship in the manner he has run the affairs of the country, saying he’s planning is to turn the country into a one party state, after alleging that the government has deliberately targeted opposition political parties in the country with the aim of rendering them comatose ahead the 2027 election.
