Atletico Madrid are showing strong interest in Nigeria and Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, with the La Liga giants plotting to make a move for the Super Eagles star in the summer, Footynaija.com reports.

The Spanish club attempted to lure the 28-year-old away from England during the winter transfer window but they met strong resistance from their English counterparts, with Ndidi’s agent confirming that the midfielder would remain at Leicester.

However, according to reports revealed by Caught Offside, Atleti’s Argentine manager Diego Simeone remains keen on securing Ndidi’s signature. As a result, Los Colchoneros will try to sign the Nigerian again in the summer.

Ndidi is currently one of Leicester City’s most important players, making the Foxes’ reluctance to part ways quite understandable. Nevertheless, many expect the former Genk midfielder to depart this summer despite only recently penning a new deal with the club.

Alongside Atletico Madrid, another La Liga side Real Betis have been credited with strong interest in Ndidi. Betis, who are eyeing up the Nigeria international as a potential reinforcement for their midfield, could rival Atleti for his signature in the summer.

Ndidi is also of interest to Monaco, who also saw their advances for the midfielder turned down in January. The French side remain keen and they will be at high alert when the summer window opens.

Having joined the Foxes from Belgian Pro League side Genk back in 2017, Ndidi has established himself as a fan favourite at the King Power Stadium. He has made 291 appearances for Leicester, with 18 goals and an FA Cup gold medal to show for his efforts.

Ndidi is highly rated by Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, with the Dutchman recently dubbing the Nigerian midfielder ‘a complete package’ following solid performances against Manchester United and Arsenal respectively.
