According To NewsVista Reporter, a 46-year-old Australian man, Sisituutuumata Fulivai, is facing trial over allegations that a woman was held captive, assaulted, and raped over a two-day period in Canberra.
The case is before a jury at the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory. Fulivai has pleaded not guilty to 20 charges. Police reported finding the woman, in her mid-20s, naked and screaming for help on the street in the Lyneham suburb on June 10, 2024. She told officers she feared for her life.
Prosecutors allege that the woman met Fulivai through a mutual friend and that a seemingly consensual encounter escalated into violence. Court documents describe repeated beatings with household objects, choking until she lost consciousness, threats with a knife, and sexual assault. Fulivai allegedly threatened both her and her family, saying he did not fear the consequences.
The woman reportedly escaped when Fulivai fell asleep, quietly leaving the house and running into the street where police found her.
The trial is ongoing, with additional testimony and evidence expected to be presented throughout the week.
