AVIATION workers in Nigeria have postponed their planned protest originally set for September 18, 2024, regarding the 50% deductions from the revenues of aviation agencies.
Last week, aviation unions in the country criticized the Federal Government for its refusal to reverse this policy of reducing the internally generated revenues of aviation sector agencies.
The affected agencies include the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigeria College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB).
However, in a statement issued on September 17, 2024, and signed by Olayinka Abioye, the General Secretary of the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE), the workers announced the suspension of the planned protest.
“Based on information we have received regarding ongoing discussions among higher authorities about the continued 50% deductions by the Federal Government, I am pleased to inform our esteemed members that the protest scheduled for September 19, 2024, is hereby suspended pending the outcome of these discussions, which we will communicate to you all appropriately,” Abioye stated.
