Following the critical success of Bāhubali: The Epic, from acclaimed filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli, the popular fantasy franchise will continue with the electric new spinoff — Baahubali – The Eternal War Part 1, which just dropped its first trailer. The animated follow-up will bring back the titular hero, who, after The Epic‘s cliffhanger, is launched into a war spanning 14 realms.

The first teaser for The Eternal War, which will arrive in theaters in 2027, showcases the forthcoming film’s animation, elevating its central action. The actors who previously starred in the live-action iteration, Prabhas and Ramya Krishna, are returning to voice their characters of Prince Amarendra Baahubali and Sivagami, respectively. Check out the trailer for Baahubali – The Eternal War Part 1 below:

Rajamouli first released Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion in 2015 and 2017, respectively, but recently re-edited them into one film under The Epic subtitle, which is now in theaters in the United States and has been met with largely positive reviews. ScreenRant‘s Gregory Nussen praised it as “A maximalist film which somehow maintains its shocking level of adrenaline despite its nearly four-hour runtime […].

But since the original Baahubali duology, Rajamouli has also become known around the world for his award-winning action movie RRR, depicting a fictionalization of the lives of two freedom fighters in India under British colonial rule. RRR demonstrates some of the same strengths as Baahubali, such as bombastic action and a careful balance of genres.

However, Ishan Shukla (“The Bandits of Golak,” Star Wars: Visions) takes over directorial duties for The Eternal War. Rajamouli praised the new filmmaker’s vision in a statement on how this spinoff came to be, saying:

When Ishan brought us the idea of expanding the Baahubali universe into a stylized animated epic, it clicked instantly. It feels like a seamless, organic extension of the world we built, one that will thrill long‑time fans and invite new audiences in. I am excited to bring these two films to the big screen.

It is also now confirmed that Baahubali – The Eternal War Part 1 is written by voice actor, producer, and screenwriter Scott Mosier (The Grinch, Free Birds). While this may surprise some people, the production team likely believes in Mosier in the same vein as Rajamouli’s endorsement of Shukla, and the movie will need a strong script when it may visually rival the best animations of the 21st century.
