Baldur’s Gate 3 features a healthy dose of medieval inspiration, and a new mod is leaning into that aspect. While you can play a knight and go on heroic quests in Baldur’s Gate 3, the setting of Faerûn isn’t much like the Arthurian legend. It scratches more of a Renaissance itch overall, and even then, its high fantasy nature bears only some resemblance to the classical myths of human history.
The new Chivalry Expansion mod for Baldur’s Gate 3, created by Halomaster481 and Sumradagnoth8, adds a wide variety of medieval and Arthurian elements to the game. From new abilities to dragon-slaying encounters, the Chivalry mod is a major overhaul. Halomaster481 credits games like Kingdom Come: Deliverance, The Witcher 3, and Mordhau as the sources of various assets, which include realistic armor sets and a smattering of medieval weapons.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Chivalry Mod Adds A Lot Of Items
Plenty To Choose From
The NexusMods page for the Chivalry Expansion breaks down the inclusions as follows:
- 120+ new items
- 24 new weapons
- 22 new armor sets
- 10 new encounters
- 100+ new custom passives and abilities
Screenshots on the NexusMods page also provide a visual overview of the weapons, armor, and shields. These range from commonplace tools like poleaxes to legendary implements of more fantastical inclinations. The majority of items fall into the former category, making the mod perfect for those who want to don some chain mail and grab a heater shield.
As fornew challenges, you’ll be up against “heroes and villains of yore,” ranging from the Black Knight of Arthurian legend to “the Forgotten Heroes of the Gate.” Along with the details on the Nexus Mods page, a YouTube trailer provides a highlight reel of the Chivalry Expansion’s content, including some glimpses at the new fights.
The Chivalry Expansion Is One Of Many Promising BG3 Mods
Even Without DLC, Things Are Looking Up
Baldur’s Gate 3‘s Chivalry mod has just dropped, so fan feedback on NexusMods is still lacking. I’m hoping this one is able to deliver on its significant potential. Its development has been documented in a Discord server for the mod, so it’s not something that’s just shown up out of the blue.
At any rate, the world of Baldur’s Gate 3 modding is getting more exciting by the day. Since the release of the official Baldur’s Gate 3 toolkit and fan mods to unlock its full potential, more and more significant overhauls have been appearing in short succession. The Chivalry Expansion might not be the most radical addition to Baldur’s Gate 3 yet, but it could effectively scratch that Arthurian itch.
