BANDITRY continues to plague communities in Kogi and Zamfara States, with attacks on Friday and Saturday leaving three people dead and 15 others kidnapped.
In Kogi, assailants struck the Olle-Bunu community in Kabba/Bunu LGA on Friday afternoon, killing two residents: Williams Onimayin and Olowo Memonbiayere and abducting over ten others.
A local resident, Bayo, reported that the attackers targeted villagers on their way to farms, while Olayinka Braimoh, a community leader and former political candidate, condemned the authorities for inadequate security measures, calling for stronger deployment of security forces, investment in local intelligence, and active involvement of community leaders.
The Chairman of Kabba/Bunu LGA, Barrister Zacchaeus Dare Michael, also decried the attack as a serious threat to public safety and communal harmony.
In Zamfara, bandits attacked Fananawa village in Bukuyum LGA on Saturday night, killing one person and abducting seven. Residents revealed that the assailants operated through the night.
The Zamfara State Police Command also confirmed the incident. They however reported five abductions, noting that security personnel are actively conducting rescue operations.
Malam Sani, a local resident, revealed that one of the injured victims was referred to the teaching hospital in Sokoto.
These incidents follow a series of violent attacks in the Bukuyum area in recent weeks, highlighting the ongoing insecurity affecting communities in both states.
