Three vigilantes from Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State have been killed by suspected bandits while returning from Agwara in neighbouring Niger State.

The victims were identified as Abubakar Mai Nera, the vigilante commander in Saminaka, Tanko Sarki and Amadu Saminaka.

The three men were said to have come under attack while travelling through the border area between Kebbi and Niger states.

Sources said the incident occurred around Kasabo, Binuwa and Mago, across the River Kwara, where the vigilantes were reportedly ambushed by the attackers.

The bandits were said to have set the victims and their belongings ablaze after the attack, making efforts to recover the bodies difficult.

The incident occurred on Friday, but the victims’ relatives were only contacted by the suspected bandits on Wednesday, September 30.

As of the time of filing this report, the bodies of the three vigilantes had not been recovered.

Residents and local security personnel have continued efforts to locate the remains of the victims, while details surrounding the attack are still emerging.
