What is the “battery charge limit” feature for Pixel phones?
The “battery charge limit” feature, as its name implies, enables you to manually restrict the device from charging beyond a specific percentage. To maintain battery health for longer, many manufacturers recommend charging the device up to 80%. This way, the phone avoids fully completing a battery charge cycle (charging from 0 to 100%). Let us remember that manufacturers promote the useful life of their batteries in charging cycles.
The “battery charge limit” feature is ideal for devices with large batteries since it would be useless to limit the charge of your phone and then have to charge it again the same day. Anyway, since the feature was available in the Android 15 beta, many expected Android 15 to bring it to its Pixel devices, but that’s not the case. That said, everything has an explanation.
The option was designed for the QPR1 update
While the battery charge limit feature was available in the Android 15 beta, it first arrived in QPR1 Beta 2. In other words, the first stable version of Android 15 never intended to include the option. It will arrive with the first quarterly release after the stable update (QPR1). In theory, the Android 15 QPR1 stable update should reach Pixel devices in December. Still, the feature may take longer to arrive.
This situation differs from the cellular security options, as Google explicitly eliminated them from the latest Android 15 betas. The visibility of the latter on Pixel devices was more of an error than anything else. As for options to maintain battery health on Pixel phones, users can still enable “adaptive battery” in Settings. This feature analyzes your usage habits and limits the charging speed automatically.
