The Director-General of New Media for the Governor of Bayelsa State, Samuel Oredipe, has dismissed reports claiming that Governor Douye Diri is responsible for the pregnancy of reality TV star Nengi Hampson.
On Monday, February 10, social media was flooded with claims that the 27-year-old reality TV star was expecting a child with the governor, who appointed her as his Senior Special Assistant on Girl Child Development in 2020.
In a reaction posted on his Facebook page, Oredipe labeled the claims as “fake news” spread by “wicked people.” He emphasized that Nengi and the governor have “no personal relationship.” Oredipe accused political opponents of trying to tarnish the governor’s reputation, especially as Diri’s administration celebrated its fifth anniversary.
His statement reads: “BBN Nengi Trending Story, Nothing to do with Gov. Diri! Political enemies of His Excellency Senator Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State, are at work again. It is a disgrace that a group of people is spreading falsehood on a day when the Prosperity Administration is celebrating its 5th anniversary.
Nengi Rebecca Hampson has no personal relationship with Governor Diri, and it is unfortunate that those spreading fake news cannot accept the governor’s prominent political stature. Nengi herself has publicly debunked these lies on social media.
GistLover has made another mistake! All of this is fake!
This is nothing but a distraction, and there are valid reasons for regulating the use of various social media platforms. Unfortunately, while we were inaugurating a brand new road in Yenagoa, social media ‘e-rats’ were spreading falsehoods about the governor. Governor Diri is a man of honor and dignity.”
