Prominent analyst, Professor Jideofor Adibe has warned Peter Obi, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, to be cautious of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) opposition coalition.
Adibe spoke on Tuesday during an interview on Channels TV’s The Morning Brief.
“I wouldn’t want to advise Peter Obi; he has his own advisors. At the end, he has to make his own decisions, but if I were him, I would be wary of ADC. I would be extremely suspicious,” he said.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have both zoned their 2027 presidential tickets to the south, while the ADC has yet to take a position.
Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president and member of the ADC coalition from the north, has expressed interest in contesting the presidency in 2027.
His ambition is seen as a possible threat to southerners in the coalition, including Obi and Rotimi Amaechi, who are also eyeing the presidency.
Adibe described Obi as a politician who does not think on the surface but always has an alternative plan.
His words: “It’s up to him to know what his own political strategists are telling him and what these moves are.
“I believe that once any announcement is made, they create scenarios. However, in the next couple of months, it will become clearer what informed the PDP’s decision to zone the ticket.”
Adibe said Obi’s road to victory would require vigilance and strategic thinking.
He likened the unfolding political dynamics to a chess game.
“In the end, like any chess game, it may work and it may not, but we don’t know. In all this, it is a tug of war,” he said.
