Here is the full transcript from our Sheffield Wednesday Q&A as Dom Howson answered your questions on Mallik Wilks, potential incomings and Alex Hunt’s future.
What did you make of what Massimo Luongo posted on social media?
It was a very cryptic message from Luongo. The fact is he was offered a new contract at the end of last season. He has had over a month to assess his options. He has not committed to the club and Wednesday have announced that he has rejected a new contract.
Wednesday have moved on and brought in Will Vaulks to bolster their midfield department. Will we get Luongo’s side of the story? Hopefully it might come out over the next couple of weeks.

Any news on Mallik Wilks?
Nothing has progressed with Wilks. Talks are thought to be ongoing between all parties.
It is a complicated deal to get done. Wilks has another year left to run on his Hull deal. Hull will want some money for him and Wednesday haven’t paid a transfer fee for a player in a long time, albeit they have not been able to in the last two windows.
Do you expect any more signings this week?
Michael Ihiekwe and Michael Smith were announced late last night. I know they are working on one or two other deals in the background.
The club are happy with the transfer business they have done so far but Darren Moore still wants to get more players in the building to freshen things up. Wednesday definitely lack strength in depth in one or two areas.
Anything happening with Wilks or are Wednesday focusing on free transfers?
Wednesday have focused on the free transfers market and tried to bring in players who they genuinely believe will improve the squad and give them a shot at promotion. I expect any loan deals to get done later in the window. I am sure there will be three to four loan players coming in.
Wednesday are moving towards a more sustainable model. Gone are the days when they can spend millions of pounds on buying players.
How many more signings do you think we need?
Based on Wednesday sticking with a 3-5-2 formation, I think they need one more centre-back, a left wing back and another striker. The intriguing bit is Moore wants the team to be tactically flexible this season.
There will be times when they line up in a flat back four against certain opposition. I don’t think Wednesday have the personnel right now to play that system effectively. I would like to see them sign a left back and possibly two wingers. They still need more youth and speed in the wide areas.
How many signings are Wednesday away from being a real title threat?
I would like to see seven more players come through the door. Two centre-backs, a left-back, two winger’s and two striker’s.
All bases would then be virtually covered for me. It is vitally important they bolster their numbers at the back. That is the area they look particularly short on.
Have you heard anything on Eric Botteghin or Jack Diamond? They are two rumours that appeared the other day.
I saw the Jack Diamond link. I thought he was tremendous against Wednesday in the Papa John’s Trophy last season. He is quick, direct and has got good feet. He is exactly the type of player Wednesday should be looking to bring in.
Must admit that Botteghin is a new name on me. That one would surprise me seen as though the club seem to be focusing most of their efforts on the UK market.
What kind of role do you think Alex Hunt could have this season? Do you think another loan spell would be best for his development?
It is difficult for Hunt. Wednesday are well-stocked in midfield.
I personally think he would be better off going on loan to a League Two club in the first half of the season and playing regular first team football. I just don’t see him getting into the first XI at Wednesday.
The competition is fierce. Injury permitting, the midfield three at the start of the season will be Barry Bannan, George Byers and Will Vaulks, with Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Dennis Adeniran waiting in the wings for a chance to impress.
