The Benue State House of Assembly has extended the suspension of former Speaker, Hyacinth Dajoh, for another six months, following a motion moved during plenary on Tuesday.
The motion, titled “Motion to Review the Suspension of Hyacinth Dajoh (Gboko West State Constituency) from Legislative Duties,” was moved by Terna Shimawua (APC/Kyan), who alleged that Dajoh had shown no remorse since his initial suspension on August 26 for plotting to impeach Governor Hyacinth Alia.
Shimawua told the House that instead of reflecting on his earlier misconduct, the former Speaker reportedly teamed up with the former Majority Leader, Saater Tiseer, and former Minority Leader, Michael Audu, to orchestrate a fresh plot, this time targeting the current Speaker, Alfred Emberga.
He described the development as unbecoming of a former presiding officer, saying: “The conduct of Dajoh does not reflect the expectations of a leader, particularly following the recent change in the House leadership.”
The motion received unanimous support and was seconded by Simon Gabo (APC/Mata).
Responding, Speaker Emberga said the legislature must maintain discipline and protect its integrity.
“Nobody is bigger than an institution,” he declared.
He also announced that at the end of the extended suspension, Dajoh must submit a written apology and show genuine remorse before being allowed to resume legislative duties.
Emberga stated that the additional six-month suspension took effect from November 25, stressing that the Assembly would not tolerate actions capable of undermining its stability.
Dajoh was first suspended for three months in August after lawmakers accused him of leading an impeachment move against Governor Hyacinth Alia.
