THE Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, has suspended three senior government officials following recommendations from the State House of Assembly.
The officials affected include the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Grace Adagba; the Chairman of Otukpo Local Government, Maxwell Ogiri; and the Executive Secretary of the Benue State Lottery Commission, Michael Uper. Each of them will remain suspended for one month.
In a statement issued today by his Chief Press Secretary, Kula Tersoo, the governor explained that the decision was guided by his commitment to the rule of law and due process.
“The suspension of the Executive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government, Mr. Maxwell Ogiri; Mrs. Grace Adagba of SUBEB; and Mr. Michael Uper of the Lottery Commission will last for one month with immediate effect,” the statement read.
Governor Alia commended the House of Assembly for fulfilling its constitutional duty and assured Benue residents that his administration remains dedicated to transparency, accountability, and good governance.
He also directed all affected institutions to ensure uninterrupted service delivery during the suspension period.
Recall that the House of Assembly had earlier recommended six-month suspensions for the officials but faced resistance from the governor, leading lawmakers to threaten a freeze on further communications with the executive and to decline the screening of commissioner nominees.
