TROOPS from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Wukari, operating under the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have apprehended a notorious bandit leader said to be involved in multiple kidnappings and armed robberies along the Benue–Taraba corridor.
The arrest occurred on yesterday at Vaase Community, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, during a targeted, intelligence-driven operation.
Spokesman for the 6 Brigade, Lieutenant Muhammad Umar, identified the suspect as Fidelis Gayama, described as a “high-value” target long sought by security agencies.
Investigations indicate that Gayama is closely linked to Dogo, a wanted armed group leader, and is believed to head a criminal network terrorizing travellers and communities along Kente–Wukari Road and nearby border areas between Benue and Taraba States.
Confirmation by the Nigeria Police Force at the Vaase Outpost shows that Gayama is among those wanted by the Beji Police Division in Ukum LGA.
“The suspect is now in military custody and will be handed over to the relevant authorities for full investigation and prosecution according to the law,” Umar stated.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, commended the troops for their professionalism and described the arrest as a major setback for the criminal networks in the region.
He reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to maintaining security and urged the public to continue providing credible intelligence to support ongoing operations.
