TwelveSouth made the brilliant move to put Find My into a USB-C wall charger
TwelveSouth is a company that has been making some really incredible products over the years. Like the ButterFly SE Qi2 Charger, or the AirFly SE both of which are incredible products for travel. Now, at IFA 2024, TwelveSouth has added PlugBug to its lineup. This is a USB-C wall charger that just so happens to have Find My inside.
This might sound silly, but putting Find My into a wall charger is actually a really great idea. You see, you can put this into your suitcase, and thanks to Find My, be able to tell the airline where they lost your luggage. Among many other scenarios.
The PlugBug comes in two models – 50W for $69.99, and 120W for $119.99. The 50W model comes with two USB-C ports, while the 120W is 4 USB-C ports. It is a fairly large charger, especially the 120W charger, but I’d give up Gallium Nitride for Find My in a heartbeat. However, it is still pretty slim, so you could put it behind a couch or a bed without it getting in the way too much.
It doesn’t need to be plugged in, to use Find My
Obviously, if you needed to plug in PlugBug to use Find My, it wouldn’t be that useful. So, TwelveSouth says that the Find My portion of the charger is completely separate from the AC charger. In fact, Find My uses the same battery as an AirTag. That means that it can actually work when it hasn’t been plugged in for months – say it’s a travel charger and stays in your bag all the time.
As some of you might now, IFA stands for Innovation For All, and the TwelveSouth PlugBug is definitely innovative. Which is why the TwelveSouth PlugBug has earned an award for the Best of IFA 2024 from Android Headlines this year.
