One more win, away at Osasuna on Saturday, would make Flick only the second coach in Barcelona’s illustrious history to win their first eight La Liga matches. Not even Xavi or Pep Guardiola could manage that winning streak when they took charge of Barcelona.
The only other manager to achieve this feat was Gerardo “Tata” Martino, who began the 2013/14 campaign with eight consecutive league wins.
However, Martino’s early success did not translate into major trophies, as he only secured the Supercopa de España before stepping down after a single season. Martino is now coaching Inter Miami, where he has reunited with Barcelona legend Lionel Messi.
Flick’s start has been even more impressive considering Barcelona’s financial struggles and a trimmed-down squad.
Despite these challenges, Flick has shown his ability to nurture young talent from La Masia while keeping the team highly competitive.
Under his guidance, Barcelona have maintained a four-point lead over Real Madrid, who have already dropped points twice this season.
Against Getafe, Robert Lewandowski’s early goal secured a hard-fought 1-0 win.
Barcelona dominated the match, controlling 78% possession and allowing just one shot on target from their opponents. Flick’s side has also recorded notable victories over strong teams like Villarreal, Athletic Club, and Girona, further cementing their status as title contenders.
Should Barcelona secure victory over Osasuna, Flick will cement his name in the club’s history books, proving his impact as a key figure in their pursuit of another La Liga crown.
