After almost ten years together, Big Sean and Jhené Aiko are reportedly calling it quits.
Neither artist has officially confirmed the breakup, but several sources close to the couple say the relationship ended over Sean’s reluctance to tie the knot.
According to one insider who spoke to AllHipHop, Aiko had been hoping to get married, while Sean was hesitant to take that step. “She wanted marriage. She wanted the commitment,” the source said. “Sean loves her deeply, but he just never wanted to take that final step.”
The same insider added that after years of waiting, Aiko realized things were unlikely to change. “Eventually she understood that [the] ring wasn’t coming. She decided it was time to move on.”
“They’re in a good place. It’s peaceful,” a source went on. “They both respect each other too much to let things get messy. Their main focus is doing what’s best for their child.”
Sean, 37, and Aiko, 36, first connected in the early 2010s and eventually led to the formation of TWENTY88, a duo that released its debut project in 2016. In November 2022, they welcomed their son, Noah Hasani.
Last August, Big Sean opened up about why the pair had not tied the knot.
“No, no, there has not been a secret industry marriage,” he told Charlamagne Tha God at the time. “It’s a little personal, you know what I mean? But just like to be real with you, just like any people who have dealt with love, we’ve had our ups and downs, you know what I’m saying? And I think it’s still finding the right navigation through it all.”
According to Sean, “marriage symbolizes the best relationship,” and he believes “having a relationship is first and foremost.”
He continued, “I feel like a lot of people get the idea of like, ‘Oh, you have to get married,’ but then it’s like, to me, that’s almost a fear-based way of thinking, too. Because then people be getting divorced. The divorce rate’s so f—king high.”
