Black Phone 2 Overtakes Halloween Ends On Blumhouse's Highest-Grossing Horror Movies

Black Phone 2 has overtaken Halloween Ends on Blumhouse’s chart of their highest-grossing movies of all time. The new horror film, which serves as a sequel to 2021’s The Black Phone, was released in theaters on October 17.

Now, after nearly three weeks in theaters, Black Phone 2 has made $107 million at the box office worldwide, overtaking 2022’s Halloween Ends ($105M) on Blumhouse’s chart of their highest-grossing movies of all time, per The Numbers. At the time of writing, Black Phone 2 has made about $63 million domestically and $43 million internationally against its $30 million budget.

Black Phone 2 needs $23 million more to overtake 2021’s Halloween Kills at $130 million and $54 million to overtake the original Black Phone at $161 million. Halloween (2018) is third on the chart at $255 million, while Five Nights at Freddy’s is Blumhouse’s highest-grossing movie of all time at $297 million. However, Black Phone 2‘s box office run is close to wrapping up, as it’s already available on VOD.

Directed once again by Scott Derrickson, who co-wrote the script with C. Robert Cargill, Black Phone 2 follows Finney four years after surviving his abduction by The Grabber, as his sister Gwen starts receiving mysterious calls through her dreams from the black phone and has terrifying visions of three boys being hunted at a winter camp.

Black Phone 2‘s cast brings back Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Ethan Hawke, Jeremy Davies, Miguel Mora, and James Ransone to reprise their roles. Demián Bichir, Arianna Rivas, Anna Lore, Graham Abbey, and Maev Beaty join the cast as new characters.

With a 72% Rotten Tomatoes score, Black Phone 2 has received generally positive reviews from critics for building on the lasting impact of its predecessor to deliver a chilling sequel that draws both its scares and its depth from the lingering wounds of the past.
