According To Our Reporter, two Nigeria Customs Service officers from the Idiroko Area Command were critically injured after suspected armed smugglers launched a daring attack in Akokoro, Iwoye, Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State. Watch full report
DAILY POST reports that the incident happened around 4:00 p.m. last Thursday when officers, acting on intelligence, intercepted a 12-tyre truck loaded with suspected illicit drugs and prohibited items.
Customs spokesperson, Zakaria Chado, said the smugglers mobilised reinforcements, blocked nine access routes, opened fire, and shot the tyres of a patrol vehicle before escaping with the seized truck.
Acting Area Controller, Olukayode Afeni, condemned the “barbaric” attack, urged community leaders to warn residents, and assured that investigations are ongoing under the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023.
The wounded officers are receiving intensive medical care.
