Ugandan opposition leader and former presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has cried out over what he described as a military invasion of his residence in Magere, a suburb of Kampala.
The politician, who has remained a vocal critic of President Yoweri Museveni’s regime, said armed security operatives stormed his home on Friday evening, demanding his whereabouts and attempting to force entry.
In a video posted on social media, Bobi Wine alleged that the Ugandan military was attempting to forcibly enter his compound, harassing his wife in the process.
“The military is breaking into our house in Magere, forcing Maama @lamBarbieKyagulanyi to surrender or disclose my whereabouts,” he wrote in the caption accompanying the video.
In the footage, his wife, Barbara Kyagulanyi, could be heard confronting the operatives.
“What do you want in our compound? What is that you want in our compound?” she asked repeatedly as uniformed men moved within the premises.
The latest incident adds to growing concern over what many have described as the systematic intimidation and harassment of opposition figures in Uganda.
Since rising to prominence as a popular musician-turned-politician, Bobi Wine has endured multiple arrests, travel restrictions, and surveillance, particularly after contesting against President Museveni in the 2021 general elections.
As of press time, Ugandan security agencies had not issued an official explanation for the presence of operatives at the Magere residence.
The lack of transparency surrounding the operation has further fueled speculation of state-led political suppression.
The raid comes weeks after Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, issued a controversial public declaration banning Bobi Wine from contesting in future elections, citing “national security concerns.”
Kainerugaba, who is the son of President Museveni, reportedly made the remarks in a widely circulated statement, asserting his role as commander of Uganda’s armed forces.
