On Friday night, SuperSport United have confirmed that Kudakwashe Mahachi has suspended all club activities due to serious allegations.
The 28-year-old Zimbabwe-born player has now been suspended by SuperSport with immediate effect to look after his family.
The charges are reportedly related to allegations that he abused his four-year-old son.
Further reports indicated that Mahachi was accused of scalding his young son with boiling water.
The child is said to be from Mahachi’s first marriage to Maritha Ndlovu, who accused the midfielder of abusing his son with the help of current wife Rose Mahachi.
Bulawayo-based lifestyle tabloid B-subway, Mahachi called his ex-wife in February and asked the boy to travel to South Africa and stay with his father, the report said.
Apparently, Ndlovu later found out that her son had returned to Zimbabwe and was living with Mahachi’s grandmother.
Ndlovu claims that as soon as she heard that her son was in the country, she went to pick her son up and saw that he was heavily bandaged with burns all over his body.
The burns, as the mother said, were third-degree burns that reportedly resulted in the boy’s right foot having to be amputated.
“The journey from Johannesburg to Bulawayo takes about 10 hours and he is alone. What kind of father would do this to his son? Mahachi has money and he has the ability to get his son treated in South Africa. I took my son Went to a private clinic, they quickly called an ambulance and took him to Mpilo hospital. The doctor said it was inappropriate to take him to the hospital in another car, but his father put him on a quantum bus How cruel can a person be?” Ndlovu (the child’s mother) told B-Subway.
Mahachi apparently accused his ex-wife of lying and insisted the boy was burned in Zimbabwe.
SuperSport issued the following statement after the allegations came to light:
SuperSport United FC are aware of serious allegations against our player Kudawashe Mahachi
The club immediately suspends all club football activities for the player. He was advised to look after his family and the charges against him.
The matter is pending judicial proceedings. The club would not comment further at this time.
Mahachi has only made eight appearances for SuperSport in the league this season.
