After ravaging floods, the Borno Government, to prevent an infectious disease outbreak, began fumigating the state’s capital, Maiduguri.
The Senior Special Adviser to Governor Babagana Zulum on New Media, Abdurrahman Bundi, during a press briefing reporters at the Flood Disaster Situation Room in Maiduguri, said the fumigation is coming as displaced persons return to their homes following a drop in water levels.
Bundi further maintained that the measure contained the possibility of an outbreak of infectious diseases.
“About 15 major areas have been fumigated, including Hospitals, Correctional Service quarters, Fire Service quarters and parts of Gwange and Shehuri wards,” he said.
NaijaOnPoint.com.ng (NOP) reports that the collapse of Alau Dam caused the flood, which started on September 10.
According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) at least 30 persons died while over 600,000 were displaced.
Following the incident, the state government received at least N14.7bn in sympathy donations.
