BORNO: Six killed as suicide bombers detonate IED

Borno

TWO suicide bombers set off an improvised explosive device (IED), at a wedding venue in Gwoza town, Borno State, resulting in the deaths of six wedding attendees and injuring several others.

A witness recounted that the first bomber, who had a baby on her back, entered the venue and detonated the explosive.

The wedding took place today at Tashan Mararaba near the Fire Service in Gwoza town.

The bomber, who was identified as a young mother in her twenties, disguised herself as a guest.

During the burial of the deceased victims, another bomber, pretending to be a mourner, also detonated an IED at the burial site, resulting in the death of one person.

The injured persons are currently being treated at the General Hospital in Gwoza.

Following the explosions, the military has imposed a curfew in Gwoza with immediate effect.

As of now, security agencies have not issued any statements on the incident.

Efforts to reach the spokespersons of North-East Joint Taskforce Operations Hadin Kai and the 7 Division and Sector One OPHK have been unsuccessful as they have not answered their phones.
