Oct. 3 – Bakersfield police officers arrested a Bakersfield man on suspicion of assault on Sunday after he received reports that he brandished a replica firearm at first responders called to assist with a possible drug overdose, according to a press release from the BPD.
At around 11:46 a.m. BPD officers Bakersfield City Fire assisted a combative individual in block 400 of Pacheco Road.
Fire service personnel reported a man suspected of an overdose, identified in the release as John Luna, 28, assaulting a firefighter engineer, according to the BPD release.
Luna grabbed and brandished “a shotgun that looks realistic” while making threats, according to BPD officers investigating the incident.
After Luna was medically cleared by staff, he was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a firefighter, brandishing a replica firearm and possessing metal knuckles.
