Retired General Ishola Williams has openly asked tough questions about the presence of American special forces reportedly deployed to assist Nigeria. According to him, many Nigerians are still waiting to see clear results while soldiers continue to lose their lives on the battlefield.
Speaking on the issue, the former general said the United States reportedly brought in between 100 and 200 special forces personnel, yet many Nigerians still don’t know exactly what role they are playing on the ground.
His words were direct and emotional.
“Now they said they have brought about 100 or 200 special forces. These special forces are here. Where are they? What are they doing? What intelligence are they giving us?” Williams asked.
The concern comes at a time when violence has intensified in parts of Borno State, where several Nigerian soldiers were recently killed in attacks by insurgents. According to reports, the casualties included two commanding officers and a major, raising fears about the safety of troops on the frontline.
Williams also pointed out that in many countries around the world, such heavy military losses would trigger serious consequences for top commanders.
“In any country in the world, the Chief of Army Staff would resign. The GOC would go. They would all leave because of that kind of attack,” he said.
