An Arik Air flight en route from Lagos to Port Harcourt was diverted to Benin City on Wednesday after the crew detected an unusual sound from one of the aircraft’s engines.
The airline confirmed that Flight W3 740 was redirected to Benin Airport as a precautionary measure while descending to Port Harcourt. According to a statement issued in Lagos by the airline’s Public Relations and Communications Manager, Mr Adebanji Ola, the operating crew of the Boeing 737-700 aircraft heard a loud noise from the left engine.
All 80 passengers on board safely disembarked after the aircraft landed in Benin. The airline stated that no injuries were recorded.
Arik Air said arrangements had been made to transport the affected passengers to their final destinations and apologised for the disruption to their journey. It reiterated that the safety and well-being of passengers remain its top priority.
Further details regarding the cause of the engine issue were not immediately available.
