A bill seeking the creation of Ogoja State has passed its second reading in the House of Representatives.

The bill, sponsored by Godwin Offiono and three other lawmakers, aims to amend the 1999 Constitution to create an additional state in the South-south region.

It seeks to address the long-standing demand for a separate state by the people of Ogoja.

If passed into law, Ogoja State would become the seventh state in the South-south region, potentially bringing about a new wave of development and representation to the area.

Moving the motion, Mr. Offiono emphasized that the “essence of this bill is rooted in equity.”
